Is it Wise to Invest in Used Camping Gear
For camping enthusiasts, the right gear for camping over night, or for a long weekend, can make or break your stay in the wilderness. When purchasing gear, you can consider either all new equipment, or you can purchase from stores which sell used gear, or from other personal consumers (online sites), which are selling used gear. There are benefits to both.
With new gear you know what you are getting, you know the quality, and you know it has never been used. However, buying everything new is going to come at a premium price, and you may not use it all that often. When purchasing used gear, you must consider where to buy from, and the product which you are considering buying used. It you are buying something like a tent or sleeping bag, it would better suit you to buy new. But for more expensive purchases, like a camper trailer, or larger equipment which is very expensive new, you may want to consider purchasing used. As long as you know the seller, and they can give you documentation on the product and its use, you should consider purchasing used, to really save on money, and especially if it is equipment which is going to be used on a regular basis.
Purchasing used equipment can really save you money on larger camping equipment. But, consider who the seller is, and what you want to purchase used. For some items its a great saver, for certain things, I would recommend buying new.
I would much prefer to buy new camping gear. Old used boots and clothes don’t agree with me, I like things no one else has worn! But if you’re short on cash, old camping gear can be much cheaper. A used tent as long as it still works is a good option.
I bought a used tent recently from ebay, at a quarter of the cost. It is a really good tent and is almost like bran new. If you can buy it cheaper, then why not.
